PeelCapture – Device: Unreal Engine

Video Tutorial

Step by step instructions:

  1. Install switchboard plugin:

2. Restart Unreal (button at the bottom of the plugin window)

3. Set the OSC settings: Enable “Start an OSC Server when the editor launches” checkbox. Set the OSC Server Address to the IP of your computer running unreal or “0.0.0.0” for “Any”. Set the OSC Server port to 5500 or any available port number.

4. Restart Unreal by closing it and opening the project again. This will start the OSC Server.

5. Add the unreal device to Peel Capture:

Set the “Address” to the IP of the PC running Unreal. Set the port to match the OSC Server port in Unreal. Set the ‘listen IP’ to the network that has unreal running. Set the Listen port to an available port number.

5. Make sure an actor is added to Take Recorder:

Now if you record in PeelCapture, Take Recorder should start recording.

Troubleshooting:

  • Unreal Device in Peel Capture is Grey – Check the IP settings as PeelCapture is not able to connect. Disable the Firewall on the PC or add rules to open ports for the OSC server. Make sure Unreal is running on the PC and the Switchboard/OSC service is running. Restart unreal. Switch IP from 127.0.0.1 to the IP of your computer, even if it’s on the same PC. S
  • Unreal Device in Peel Capture is Black – Check the IP settings in unreal – There was an error, e.g. invalid IP address or setting.
  • Take Record is not recording – Make sure an actor has been added. Make sure it records when you press the button. Wait for the countdown to finish as it takes a few seconds for the recording to start if that is set.
